Dirt Between Your Teeth
One of my all time favorite quotes is, “We will either find a way, or we will make one!” This quote is attributed to the military commander, Hannibal the Carthaginian. I’ve never commanded an army but I still completely understand this statement! I use this sentiment pretty much every day especially when I decided to start planting last summer.
I have always been good at keeping indoor plants. I tend to them myself, watering them with a cup in my mouth and clipping off dead leaves with my lips. But I had always wanted to keep an outdoor garden of herbs or flowers. I just couldn’t figure out a way to do it. Just like with many things, the solution finally struck me – nail planters to the inside of the porch railing!
Again, just like with everything else, I use my mouth to do it all by myself. I pull the plants out of their pots with my lips and carry them to their new home. With a small plastic spade in my mouth, I tend to the soil. To water my plants, I use a plastic watering can that I fill with a large water jug that I get my roommates to keep full.
This past weekend, I planted this summers batch of flowers. I would not recommend this to the weak stomached! When I came inside and smiled at my roommate, Jordon, she laughed “You’ve got dirt in your teeth!” Small price to pay for pretty flowers!
